How Bridge Bookshop is working towards lessening our impact on the planet
A sustainable approach
We reuse packing materials where possible and consolidate deliveries with multiple clients to avoid unnecessary travel
By shopping local you are helping reduce unnecessary internet shopping waste, reducing the impact of delivery vans, unnecessary new packaging being introduced to the environment and helping local businesses and economies (people!) survive
Ordering books from Bridge Bookshop should mean significantly less packaging than ordering books from multinational corporations
We do not use bubble wrap or similar, all packing material is re-used paper
We have stopped ordering plastic bags and now provide paper bags where needed, currently free of charge. Please re-use these robust brown paper carriers at least 7 times.
We favour suppliers of greetings cards that either do not use a plastic covering or who have switched to a biodegradable, non-plastic alternative
For our large format paper and card art products we have biodegradable bags available, if needed
Our wholesalers use paper and card packing materials, which we re-use for our deliveries
We gift our spare boxes to libraries on request and to other customers on request for re-use
We have signed up to the IOM DEFA “Refill Isle of Man” scheme where we offer to refill water bottles on request at both our shops in Port Erin and Ramsey, reducing plastic bottle waste
When fulfilling a web order through our website, we re-use packing material rather than using new material, which is mainly made of paper and card
We have recently upgraded our heating and hot water system, as well as insulation, to improve energy efficiency
