Selected and introduced by Dollin Kelly

Thomas Edward Brown (1830-1897) is deservedly known as the National Poet of the Isle of Man but his poems are loved by discerning readers throughout the world.

This anthology not only introduces the poet and his works to first time readers but also contains interesting explanations and notes to help anyone who picks it up to understand the words and situations which are no longer part of our modern life.

The humour, erudition, and above all the humanity of the learned 'Fellow of Oriel' who had the heart of a simple sailor are all revealed in Dollin Kelly's selection of both dialect and 'English' verses, and Catherine James has caught the spirit of the times with her exquisite pencil sketches.

The Manx Heritage Foundation hopes that this new selection of T. E. Brown's poetry will find a place on the shelves of many Manx homes and be used in Island schools and will bring to the attention of new generations of Manx people the very real value of the Island's only true National Poet.
